From Lucca or Montecatini or Florenz to Cinque Terre – a day trip

Roughly 80 km North of Lucca, but easily to reach over the motorway, world-famous Cinque Terre are located, 5 little villages along the beautiful cliffs, for long times accessible only from the sea.
Geographically located already in the most Southern corner of Liguria they are a true jewel above the Tyrrhenian sea, well-known through literature and painting. A trip there is a kind of must for who stays in Tuscany for a week or more.

Of course one may organize everything oneself: transfer, search for parking lot in Portovenere , boat tickets, transfer back in total or in part by train etc.
According to the experiences we have made it is much better in this case to rely on the services of a local tourist-company who will plan everything smoothly and comfortably, and all that at really acceptable price.

ORGANIZED TRIP TO CINQUE TERRE
In this case you will travel in a comfortable bus, once again passing below the marble peaks near Carrara and Massa, over the motorway to La Spezia, from there over a very winding road to Portovenere, picturesque little seaport and with vital impact on famous English poet Shelley.

Within this program there will be one hour time to stroll through Portovenere harbour area or climb up to the high fortress with spectacular view from up there.

At first comes up Riomaggiore

Most pretty Manarola comes next.

if lucky accompanied by a school of jumping/diving dolphins.

Clung at the cliffs Corniglia – without harbour, only small wooden runways lead down to the water.

Next town Vernazzahere a stopover of 1h is forseen

Depending on the actual weather, and by that on the possibilities to get ashore at the different little villages, you will be between 1 and 2 hours at sea; all the way close to the impressive cliffs. Shore leave at picturesque villages Vernazza and Monterosso – time for lunch in one of the uncounted restaurants – or follow one of many recommendations. Another option could also be a tasting of the famous Cinque Terre white vine.

Monterosso

Back in 2011 – just to give you an example – we made that trip as follows:
Start with bus at Montecatini Terme centre 08.00 o’clock, stopover in Lucca 08.30 at main station.
Return to Lucca about 18.00 and half an hour later at Montecatini Terme.

Please determine exact times with the operator, time tables might have been changed. The good thing is you may order tickets and travel alone or in a group, in that case book somewhat in advance.  For bigger groups of 10 or more people and early booking we could help you and try to get better conditions with the tour agency than regular listed prices; you may contact us in this case.
