Artist Mariano Hernandez in Pietrasanta

Mariano unites blood of half of Europe’s nations in his veins, he’s a cosmopolitan and a more than charming libertine. His life has been following truly unusual courses, oscillating like the way he presents his art. There will be few chains to be put on him, in the end he would break them open anyway.

His freedom of thought can be found in all of his paintings, not just with a look to the subject selected but also in their shere dimension. There does not exist a small painting made by him. The colours are stark, exactly what we need today to contrast the uniformity of a world governed by the internet, a strong stimulant.
Mariano manages to abduct you and me into another world. Into his world? Who knows, perhaps the emotions, thoughts and feelings his art makes arise in us are already there, latent and just slumbering waiting to be touched – should we really try to find out?

Mariano describes his opuses as follows: In most cases my paintings show imagitive male or female figures that transmit love, joy of life, erotic situations, beauty, freedom and other ideas.
I like the phrase of a French poet who so nicely describes the spirit of my paintings:

“Nous ètions faits pour ètre libres”, perhaps to be translated as “We were born to be free”
